Master of Education (M.Ed.)
in Training and Development
via Distance Learning
Program Overview
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Training and Development is a distance-delivered curriculum. Courses are delivered using the Internet
and integrated multimedia. The only required on-campus attendance is a 1-day orientation held
just before beginning the first semester of the program.
While the degree program is offered on-line, it is built on principles
of adult learning emphasizing interaction, collaboration, and team learning.
It is also designed primarily for the working adult completing graduate
studies on a part-time basis. Students are required to maintain continuous
enrollment in the Fall and Spring semesters once accepted into the program.
Curriculum
The Master of Education degree in Training and Development is designed
for entering or experienced training professionals who work in internal
or external training positions in business, industry, military, government, and not-for-profit organizations. The program is
structured around a core body of knowledge in adult education and the
principles and theories of human performance improvement. The curriculum
builds advanced understandings and skills in program design and the applications
of learning theory incorporating principles, research, and practice. Individuals
completing this master's program will have sufficient professional knowledge
and skill for entry or advancement in instructional design, and instructional,
administrative, or evaluation positions that involve performance-based
training.
Students enrolled in the M.Ed. distance education will follow complete
a specific set of courses during their program. A listing of the required
courses can be found on the T&D M.Ed. - Student
Planning Worksheet (pdf). This sheet can also be used to help students plan when and in what order to enroll in courses. Descriptions of these courses are provided
on the NCSU listing
of courses.
In addition, all graduate students are expected to either pass the AHE
technology competencies through a testing out procedure or to attend a
workshop at the beginning of their studies. Further information is noted
