Background

Tony O'Driscoll is Lead Learning Strategist with IBM's Center for
Advanced Learning. He is responsible for advancing IBM's thought leadership in formal and informal learning through research, theory and methodology development, application and education. Dr. O'Driscoll has advised business leaders around the world on how to leverage technology to create sustainable competitive advantage in an increasingly networked global economy. He has led several large e-business strategy development and implementation projects and has a proven track record of creating and executing strategies that deliver tangible business results.

Dr. O'Driscoll has in-depth knowledge and extensive experience in helping clients optimize and manage organizational performance. He is a recognized authority in the areas of e-business, mobile e-business, e-marketplaces, e-business management systems, e-learning, knowledge management and corporate innovation and his consulting practice has been focused primarily in the telecommunications, high technology, energy and education sectors.

During his career, Dr. O'Driscoll has held several managerial and consultative positions in the areas of Software and Hardware Development, Technical Training, Sales and Marketing Training, Computer Based Training, Multimedia Development, New Product Development, Strategic Business Planning, Organization Development, Change Management, Knowledge Management and e-Business. Prior to joining IBM, he served as Executive Advisor to the Vice President of Employee and Organizational Learning at Nortel Networks. In August of 1996, and again in May of 1998, he was awarded the Nortel Networks Award of Excellence in Innovation for his efforts in the areas of electronic performance support and new product development.

Dr. O'Driscoll holds an Ed.D. in Organizational Learning, an M.S. in Management from NCSU, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He is an adjunct faculty member in both the College of Management and the College of Education. He writes, lectures and speaks on e-Business Strategy and Business Models, Organizational Learning, Knowledge Management, Performance Consulting, Corporate Innovation, New Product Development, and Project and Portfolio Management. Currently, his research interests include learning strategy formulation and knowledge-based high performance work systems.

Research

Current research projects include the application of peer-to-peer technology to improve information sharing between knowledge workers and the application of human-centric software design to develop "Workware" a paradigm-shifting software environment that facilitates the development of robust Knowledge Based High Performance Work Systems.

Dr. O'Driscoll's speaking engagements and his most recently published book: Achieving Desired Business Performance, emphasize the critical need for corporations to leverage their organization and information technology infrastructures to better harnesses the key asset in the information age economy: Human Capital.

Service

Dr. O'Driscoll was a founding member of NCSU's Technology, Education, and Commercialization (TEC) Program, which was established to educate graduate engineering and management students in the area of new business development via the incubation and commercialization of technologies developed at the university. This program was recognized by Science Magazine as one of the most innovative new curriculums in Higher Education in the United States. Since that time, the TEC program has garnered significant funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and has become a differentiator for NCSU's Graduate Program in Management. Dr. O'Driscoll is also responsible for managing the research relationship between IBM and NCSU's e-commerce program.

Dr. O'Driscoll is an active member of ISPI, PDMA, ASTD and AHRD. He has contributed to science via journal and book publications and has been a keynote presenter, panelist, workshop leader, and facilitator at numerous local, national, and international conferences and symposia.
