james_burrow@ncsu.edu Dr. Jim Burrow received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Northern Iowa majoring in Marketing and Marketing (distributive) Education. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska with major study in marketing education and concentrations in marketing and adult education. He has held faculty appointments in marketing, marketing education, human resources development, and training and development at the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and N.C. State University. Outside of education he has been employed in food processing and sales and has extensive consulting experiences with manufacturers, retail organizations, universities and government agencies. He has been director or co-director of nearly 20 research and development projects obtaining funding of over $500,000. He is the author or co-author of four texts in marketing and business and a professional reference in evaluating adult education and training programs as well as numerous book chapters, monographs, and journal articles focused on business strategy, performance improvement, and training evaluation. As the former Program Coordinator, Dr. Burrow was responsible over the fifteen years he spent as a full-time faculty member for expanding the Training and Development curriculum from two courses to a comprehensive masters and doctoral curriculum with specializations in Assessment and Evaluation and Technology. He also led the development of distance education for the program using cable television, videotape, two-way audio and video instruction, and the Internet. Those efforts culminated in the fully-distance delivered MEd curriculum, T & D Online. Dr. Burrow retired from NC State in 2003 and currently serves as an
adjunct research associate professor in the program. He has an active
consulting practice and continues as author of several business and marketing
textbooks. Teaching Dr. Burrow’s teaching interests include: EAC 582 Organization and Operation of Training and Development Programs
Research Current research interests are developing models for assessing the transfer
of training to the job and the value of training to the organization.
